Leslie Smith is a female Mixed Martial Artist that became famous through her defeat. The 32 years old American impressed in MMA with her determination to continue fighting, despite being seriously injured.
Smith fought with Jessica Eye on the preliminary card of UFC 180 in Mexico City Arena. The two female mixed martial artists engaged in a tough and cruel fight. Closely to the end of the first round, Eye landed a right hand into Leslie Smith‘s ear. Eye’s blow split Smith’s ear, who was immediately covered by blood that was pouring from the fractured ear. The doctors examined Smith’s condition in between the rounds and said that she can continue fighting.
The second round started with the 32 years old female female mixed martial artist in the offensive, fighting extremely well despite the cut. However, after some tough clinches in which Eye targeted Smith’s injured ear, the referee decided to stop the match. Eyes won this bantamweight bout, but it was not as easy as it appears from these lines. Leslie put up quite a good fight and showed remarkable desire not to quit despite being seriously injured. The 32 years old American, Leslie Smith, was very competitive and landed some very good blows even though she was injured, but the risk to her health was too high and the referee decided to finish the fight. Moreover, Smith declared after the match that she was disappointed of herself and she would not have backed down if the match would have continued because she could still see and move her arms, thus she could still fight and be quite competitive. In my opinion the referee took a very good decision because Leslie Smith‘s ear was almost separated from the head and serious complications could have appeared. After all, it is a woman’s fight bout and when fighters’ health is at risk everything must have a limit.
