Paul Pogba won Young Player Award at 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. The 21 years-old Juventus star was on my shortlist of possible winners of  World Cup Young Player Award. Pogba was one the key players for France in this World Cup tournament, being instrumental in many matches. The Frenchman was decisive against Nigeria when he managed to score the first goal of the game and lead his team in the next round.

Besides this crucial header against Nigeria, Paul Pogba was an influential player for Les Bleus in this World Cup tournament. The Frenchman showed incredible power and vision, excellent ball winning skills combined with an excellent technique. Pogba had already established as a key player for Juventus, but during this World Cup the young Frenchman proved he is a figure that will show up in Les Bleus’ starting 11 for years. The French superstar had an 80% pass completion rate, a goal (the opening against Nigeria in Round of 16) and an assist (against Switzerland) in five World Cup appearances. Furthermore, Paul Pogba has averaged a key pass per game and 3 successful dribbles per game. Amazing stats for a defensive midfielder, isn’t it? That is why Pogba won World Cup Young Player Award. The 21 years old midfielder had tough competition for World Cup Best Young Player, like his teammate Rapahael Varane or the Dutch surprise Memphis Depay.

Being declared Best Young player in 2014 World Cup, Pogba confirmed his dominant presence in the midfield and re-introduce himself as a world-class superstar. Many specialists consider that Paul Pogba resembles another French legend: Patrick Vieira. However Vieira stated that Pogba is more gifted than he ever was. Vieira declared that he was focused more on defensive duties, while Paul is more technically gifted and always looks to charge forward. Paul Pogba had a big role both for Juventus and France at the age of 21, that clearly demonstrates an amazing potential. That is why, the French midfielder was linked during and after World Cup with a transfer to PSG, Real Madrid or Chelsea.
